About Sydenham lake

Sydenham Lake features two distinct arms, a shallower north arm and deeper south arm, giving it a structure that lends itself to a variety of sport fish species. While fished more for its mid-sized northern pike, smallmouth bass or the occasional walleye, the lake also contains black crappie, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, bluegill, rock bass, lake herring, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, American eel and golden shiner.

For pike or largemouth bass, cast a large spinner into the weedy shoreline. This is a fairly reliable lake for pike. The western section of the lake is deepest, reaching 120 ft. (37 metres). Try this section for smallmouth bass and larger pike. The lake is part of Fisheries Management Zone 18.

Photo taken in 2014 in Eel Bay. A 7lb 21" small mouth. 3rd cast of the day, with a crank bait. The prior weekend I caught a 6lb smally in the exact same spot.

This is not my 4 year old’s first bass but it is his largest. Caught in the late summer 2019. He hooked it and brought it in both very little help from dad. His dorito covered face says it all!

This was my 4 year old son’s first pike! He’d been trying hard all day when finally this guy bit while he was just dragging his lure on a drift. It was very hard to get in on his little kids ugly stick rod and no break off this time! He asks me every day when fishing season will open again this year.

Sydenham Lake features two distinct arms, a shallower north arm and deeper south arm, giving it a structure that lends itself to a variety of sport fish species. Pike, bass and walleye are the main target species in Sydenham Lake. There are some great weedy areas along the eastern edge of the south arm of the lake, perfect habitat for all of these fish. For pike or largemouth bass, cast a large spinner into the weedy shoreline. This is a fairly reliable lake for pike, and they will go after anything flashy. Largemouth bass are somewhat more particular, and crayfish imitations are a good choice. The western section of the lake is deepest, reaching 120 ft. (37 metres). Try this section for smallmouth bass and larger pike. Deep water lures are more likely to attract smallmouth bass, and they tend to be less fond of rocky cover or other debris than largemouth bass. Smallmouth bass tend to fight harder than largemouths. Eastern Ontario Bassmasters host a series of open tournaments and events on Sydenham Lake throughout bass season.
