About SNIPE LAKE

Snipe Lake is a popular spot for ice fishing, and the action continues consistently all year.

Gerry Williscroft, formerly of Snipe Lake South Shore Resort says that pike and perch are the big draws. Both species are plentiful and “you can almost get them as soon as you drop your line.”

For perch, Williscroft suggests using small lures during the evening. Try bright colours in low light. Head straight out from the boat launch about 100 metres.

A Five of Diamonds or a Red Devil are good choices for pike, although Williscroft remembers how he caught a 13-lb. walleye last summer using a Five of Diamonds.

There are several different places on the lake that are especially productive. The southeast corner just out from the spawning area is a good choice. On the east edge, around the corner from the campground, anglers have good luck just out from the community water plant.

LAKE ACCESS

From Edmonton, There are a couple of different ways to get to Snipe Lake. Travel west on Hwy. 16 and turn onto Hwy. 43 to Valleyview. Pass through the town to TWP Road 710 and Range Road 191. Jumbo Perch...

Jumbo Perch

Piercing optional in wind

Steve Mills, an Angler's Atlas field staff volunteer in Grand Prairie, sends this report on pike fishing over the May long weekend at Snipe Lake. We know from past report that Snipe is a hot spot for whites and jumbo perch. Fished for around two hours using a lefty kreh clouser minnow fly about 3 inches long in green and white with weighted eyes. Standard chuck-and-duck fishing with optional facial piercing due to wind gusts. Stayed in toolie grass in around 4 feet of water, fishing the openings. Landed two, 8- and 6-lb. pike, but we lost several more.

Snipe Lake

Just went fishing last week to snipe lake, it was great. 3 x 10 lbs pike, a 9, a 8 and a 7 lbs pike. Not including the other 30 fish we kept catching and releasing all day. Cant wait to go back, the lake could use a better boat luanch though.

Boat Launch Bounty

Two of us landed this nice catch on April 15,09. Whitefish were hot but perch slow. We were in eight feet of water and what bite there was lasted most of the day. Had a big jack break my rod off at the handle and straighten out a 2/0 jig hook. I only know of one walleye taken this winter which was caught by another angler near me. It was a bit too small and released.
