About TEN MILE LAKE

"Ten Mile Lake is well known for its provincial park, but also offers good fishing opportunities.

The lake has been stocked with rainbow trout every year for several decades. In 2016, 75,000 rainbow were released, as well as over 25,000 kokanee.

Ten Mile Lake is a great fishery for both rainbow trout and kokanee. The best time to fish this lake is in the spring. During the summer months, the fishing can be slow, so anglers may want to try going out in early morning or evening during this time of the season.

A popular technique for catching kokanee in Ten Mile Lake is trolling a small pink flasher with a spoon. Also try trolling with a gangtroll using a snubber. Snubbers tend to really helpful when targetting kokanee, because hooks without snubbers can do considerable damage to their soft mouths.

Fly fishing on Ten Mile Lake is also great. Early in the season, try chironomid and nymph patterns. During summer and into fall, try switching to a 52 Buick or leech pattern for best results.

Gibbs Dogtail Dodgers and a new quick jigging tecnique helped entice these kokanee to bite. My new Garmin ice transducer is a game changer and helped locate kokanee quickly.

Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC named this lake one of the "Top Spots to Take the Kids Fishing" Ten Mile Lake (Quesnel) Ten Mile Lake offers easily accessible campsites that you can reserve using the Discover Camping website. For day-trippers, the lake also provides a picnic shelter, 10 kilometres of hiking trails, and a large fishing dock. Ten Mile Lake is stocked with both rainbow trout and kokanee. Kokanee like deeper, cooler water. If you don’t have a fishfinder, try suspending bait off the bottom for a few minutes. If you don’t feel a bite, try moving your bait up a couple of feet at a time in the water column until you find fish. Luckily, kokanee tend to travel in schools, and once you have dialled in the depth where they are schooling, you are sure to land a few. Sunset at 10 Mile Lake....

Sunset at 10 Mile Lake. The first Sunset we experienced while Ice Fishing. Normally, we fish early morning. But we decided to try a late afternoon fish. We didn't catch anything, but I got this beautiful picture. With no snow on the lake, just ice, the ice caught the reflection of the setting sun, and made for a moment you would normally see in the summer.

New Docks for Reservoir and Ten Mile Lakes

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC built two new docks on lakes near urban centres in the region: one on Reservoir Lake, near Williams Lake, and another on Ten Mile Lake, near Quesnel. "Adding dock access to lakes around the province is an exciting step [towards] removing barriers for people wishing to enjoy the angling experience.... A dock allows people to be catching fish in less time and with less expense, and we hope more people will give it a try." http://www.gofishbc.com/news-and-events/newsletter-archive/october-2015/new-docks-2015

Nice large Jack's and Walleye

First arrived and found the government (Beatton Park) campground very clean and tidy. The camp host is very good and will try to accomodate all your needs. Very good cement boat launch with lots of room to turn around and park.was able to catch lots of walleye by the cliffs close to campground as well as the ones further down the lake. Jack fish that we caught were 7 and 8 pounds. Walleye were 3 to 4 pounds. Lake has a very funny botttom that ranges from 1 meter to 10 meters deep very fast. You will have to have a fish finder to keep track to this. There are a lot of dead heads is the bays close to the cliffs so be very carefull while trolling through these bays. Landed most of the jack fish on rattling rapala's (red or green) and the walleye with trolling jigs of the same color. As far as the map of the campgound that you find on the internet it is not very accurate call the camp ground host for furhter information.
