About SYLVAN LAKE

Sylvan Lake residents can boast that the lake has some of the best fishing in Alberta. There are lake whitefish, walleye, perch, burbot and pike — multiple Anglers Atlas users report trophy pike of 20 lbs. or more. Whitefish are plentiful, however, note that walleye must be released. Fishing from a boat is the way to go on Sylvan Lake because shore fishing opportunities are limited. Some of the shallower areas around the shoreline are more likely to hold pike, while perch can often be found in deeper sections.

Multiple iFish Alberta users recommend using minnows as bait. Ice fishing is especially popular on Sylvan Lake. Numerous iFish Alberta users report catching whitefish during the winter months. User slew suggests "using a very small five of diamonds, smallest they make, tipped with a maggot.... That is all I use for whites at Sylvan.”

Caught just after darkness set in. Jigging in 13 feet of water with a glow buckshot rattlin spoon. Beautiful colors i must say.

The night bite was on for a solid 2 hours. Caught this walleye on a rapala ultralight rippin rap tipped with a tiny salted minnow head. Absolutely love pulling these gorgeous creatures up thru the hardwater.

New Fishing Reports

iFish Alberta is showing several new reports posted for Sylvan Lake. Apparently, walleye action is great, and people are catching limits of whitefish. User Jiffylp says, "Bring some small jigs or just bare hooks, but small. Worms, shrimp again something small and you should be able to catch perch all day. Great fun for kids.... Have seen perch everywhere this year, nothing big though. The deeper the water the better. 200m NNW of Norglenwold would be good. 6" off the bottom." Boat Launch Marker Added

A sand launch wide enough for two boats to launch. Only problem here is lack of parking which causes congestion. Four wheel drive vehicle recommend because of the sand.
