About Scugog Lake

Lake Scugog is a popular fishing lake near Peterborough. Ice fishing is especially busy here. Bass Pro Shops’ The Fishin’ Guide, suggests that when targetting black crappie, try using pinhead minnows and small tube jigs in white, yellow and chartreuse. Usually, dusk and dawn are the best times. Currently, the Ministry of Natural Resources is considering a closure on walleye in Lake Scugog due to a major decline in fish stocks in recent years. The fisheries for other species would remain open.

Perch are also commonly caught duringhe winter, and although many of them are quite small, there are some larger fish to be found. During the warmer months, many of the same ice fishing techniques also work on open water. For black crappie, try jigging minnows near the bottom with small spoons. Crappie are generally active at night. As they target walleye fry, they can often be found near walleye.

Took my little sister fishing and caught this little sunfish. For some reason when the picture was taken the fish stayed completely visible but the background was blurred. I thought it was a stunning photo

Passing on a tradition! Myself and my two boys (Easton 5, Finley 2) love fishing so anytime we can get out on the water, we do! This was Finley's first time seeing a "big" fish (as Easton would say), so he was quite focused on the fish, where as Easton is a seasoned-vet now and just smiled for the picture!

Bank fishing with the kids. Lots of small perch and bluegills. As the sun was setting, we saw the juvenile bass (large mouth and small mouth) showing up in droves to feed.

My little boy William's first fishing trip at the Port Perry docks on Scugog lake. The sunfish and mini smallmouth were hitting hard :D I'm not sure if it was happiness, wonder, or disgust on the faces of my twins, but now they refer to the clothing I was wearing as my "fishing clothing" and ask to go fishing again all the time. This is how generations of anglers continue.
