Warning Marker Added

Don’t go too far… there’s usually wasp nests, usually very close to the water, during summer time.

Boat Launch Marker Added

Small boats, canoes and kayaks only. Since this is at the far upper reach of the South Nation River, expect very shallow parts. The dam here prevents going downstream.

Boat Launch Marker Added

Séguin Bridge boat launch, turn west onto gravel road then turn right immediately. Launch is located under the bridge. The South Nation River is very flashy and this boat launch is often very rough shape in the spring or after high water. Best to use 4X4.

Relaxing on the South Nation River

Shore fishing once again. Fishing with my wife, and she took a pic of me on the sly.... I only found out about it this week, although the picture was taken in August. Nice weather, good company and fishing are always welcome. Stay safe and enjoy whats left of the nice weather before the hard water season starts.

Springb Bullhead fishing with my family

Every spring, my wife and two daughters and I go down to the South Nation River and do some bullhead fishing. This year the bite was slow, probably because of the weather that we had. Anytime I get a chance to get out fishing with my family, I do.... its a great family activity.

Field Testing - Shore Fishing

I finally got a chance to go out shore fishing with my wife not too long ago.... Ive been having motor issues with my boat, so I have been trying to find and try out different shore fishing locations. When searching for shore fishing locations, what do you consider to be the number one thing to look for? Structure. Look for areas with overhangs, dips, river branches, bridges... anything that might make the terrain different. Fish look for things like that and your luck will be increased. It doesn't mean you will always catch something, but it does give you a good chance. As an example, we went the other day to the South Nation river, a long, not too wide river. Where we decided to fish was where the castor river comes into the South Nation. On the opposite shore is a bridge that another offshoot goes under and ends up in a pond. Fish were jumping on the opposite bank where the 2 rivers connected, and under the bridge. I tossed a grub under the bridge, and as soon as it hit the water, a small hammer handle pike just hit it.... It wasn't much, but it was a start. A little later, because the fish were jumping after the flies, both me and my wife tied on Lucky Bug Lures Bingo Bugs and started tossing them. Soon after, a crappie just swallowed my wifes bug... We had no choice but to keep it since the hook was so far down it did gill damage, but my wife enjoyed her lunch the next day :). After a couple of hours of relaxing and fishing we went back home.... great to get out into nature and relax.
