About SPRING LAKE

Spring Lake, sometimes referred to as Cottage Lake, has been the home of the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club for more than 30 years.

Less than 10 metres deep, Spring Lake is prone to winter kill. There are aerators in place to offset this problem and ensure delivery of oxygen to the trout.

As well, annual stocking with rainbow and brook trout provides a steady supply of fish for anglers. For rainbow trout, iFish Alberta user Pikster recommends trying "the deep area southwest of the island about 12-14 feet.” A few patterns recommended by the Edmonton Trout Fishing Club: Idaho Nymph, Green Montana Nymph, Leech, Dr. Spratley Pheasant Tail Nymph and Wooly Bugger.

LAKE ACCESS

Spring Lake is a popular recreation area in the summer and is a short drive west of Edmonton. Follow Hwy. 16 west to the turnoff to Edmonton Beach, about six km west of Stony Plain. Follow this road south for seven km to Township Road 524. Turn right and drive three kilometres to Edmonton Beach Resort. While free public facilities are not available, permission to access this site can be obtained from the resort.

Was a beautiful morning,so decided to head out to Spring Lake where my sister has a house.Got there and had breakfast with my sisters partner, then we ventured out on the canoe to do some great morning fishing.About an hour of trolling in,wham,my ultra light spin rod with 4 pound test, just starts squealing as my drag is fairly loose.I knew i had something specal on ny line..Every 2 to 3 foot leap it took out of the water,,and i bet it jumped at least 6 times during my exciting struggle to keep this baby on my line.My fishing partner could'nt believe the size and struggle this fish suplied. He managed to scoop it up in the net just as the hook broke free from his top lip.We measured and took some pictures and i released this beautiful predator back into the depths of Spring Lake Alberta.
