McLeod Lake, in Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park, is a popular and consistent fishing lake. The staff at Canadian Tire in Whitecourt say that McLeod Lake is great for both fly fishing and standard gear. In fact, McLeod Lake is the record holder for Alberta trout at 16 pounds! In 2018, McLeod Lake was stocked with over 120,000 rainbow trout! They say that the stocked trout can be caught both from shore and by boat. If you’re fishing from shore, they suggest a pickerel rig with worms. If you’re in a boat, “try using a flashing troll method with a Willow Leaf with about an 18 in leader with worms as bait on the hook or a lure such as a Flatfish lure.” The campground and easy fishing access make this a great family spot. The campground boasts a beach, camping and day-use areas, showers and a playground. Note: The concession plans to reopen for the 2019 season. Before you go, stop by Canadian Tire in Whitecourt to stock up on all your camping and fishing gear! LAKE ACCESS McLeod Lake is located north of Whitecourt. Saw a fish pulled out Sunday that looked half dead, with bubbled skin on both flanks, pretty gross 😯

Tangled Osprey #3

Here's the end result, a little undignified but none the worse for wear and maybe a little wiser.

Tangled Osprey #2

Here's the rescue operation underway . . . the fellow's hand was in that glove a second before, I was amazed when he pulled it out unscathed.

Tangled Osprey #1

This was on a busy day at the seawall. Someone had thrown out a half-dead fish and the osprey came looking for it, then got tangled in a line. Fortunately the wildlife guys were checking licenses on the lake and cruised over within minutes to successfully untangle the bird, who eventually took off under his own power. His feet and talons were the size of my hands, and they looked pretty scary.
