Information on Brook Trout

Brook Trout are a highly sought after game fish, especially among fly-fishers, because of their striking colouration and exciting fight. They are most often targeted in rivers and tend to find cover in overhanging trees and submerged woody debris. Sometimes referred to as speckled trout, they are considered to be the best tasting and most beautiful variety of char in the world. In Lake Superior, there is a potamodromous, or migrating freshwater population, that locals refer to as ‘coasters’. A 5lbs brookie would be considered a trophy size in most North American fisheries.
