About FICKLE LAKE

Fickle Lake is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Not only is the area a prime location for bird and wildlife habitat, but the fishing is superb for northern pike, yellow perch and whitefish. The lake is great for a family getaway. Fickle Lake is a quiet lake with a boating speed restriction of 12 km/h.

A sandy beach, located near the parking area on the east side, is an inviting treat on a hot day. A walking path connects the parking area with the farthest landing dock.

Pike fishing can be an exciting adventure on Fickle Lake. Pike are fierce predators and often hang around the shallows in search of an easy meal.

Try a large Mepps spinner in white, yellow or black. Trolling a heavier spoon in the deeper sections in the fall (as the weeds die off) can also be an effective tactic.

Remember that the pike will follow the food, so as the smaller fish move among the weeds or head deeper, the pike will be nearby.

Posts on the Angler’s Atlas page for Fickle Lake indicate that the south and west sides, while quite weedy, are perfect habitat for pike and walleye.

SUMMER 2008 FISHING AT FICKLE LAKE

THIS IS A BUSY LITTLE SPOT IN THE SUMMER ALOT OF PEOPLE ENJOYING THE SUNSHINE. WITH THE CAMPSITES VERY CLOSE THE DOCK/BOAT LAUNCH AREA IS VERY BUSY BECAUSE IT IS ALSO THE MAIN ACCESS FOR THE CAMPERS ETC ENJOY THE WATER. HOWEVER, THE BOAT LAUNCH IS VERY ACCESSIBLE WITH ALOT OF PARKING AND ROOM TO TURN YOUR BOAT TRAILERS AROUND. ONCE YOU WEED THROUGH THE SWIMMERS AND GET AWAY FROM THE OTHER BOATS ON THE WATER. YOU ENTER WALLEYE HEAVEN! WE HEADED STRAIGHT FROM THE DOCK TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE TOWARD A WEED WALL ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LAKE. IMMEDIATLY THEY STARTED BITING. THERE WAS TWO US IN THE BOAT AND WE TROLLED OUR WAY THROUGH THE WEEDS WHERE WE TEASED SOME JACK THEN HEADED INTO THE TALL WEEDS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LAKE. THE WALLEYE FOUGHT OVER OUR HOOKS, AS FAST AS WE COULD GET THEM UP ( AND RELEASE THEM OF COURSE) OUR HOOKS WOULD HIT THE WATER AND ANOTHER WOULD BITE. IN TOTAL WE LANDED NO LESS THAN 30 WALLEYE THAT AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH YOU CAN'T KEEP THE WALLEYE HERE IT WAS A GREAT AFTERNOON OF CATCH AND RELEASE. NEVER A DULL MOMENT ON THOSE WATERS.
