Lac Le Jeune is a popular family fishing lake, and an easy drive from Kamloops. There is a provincial park beside the lake, with concrete boat launch, vehicle campsites, picnic area, cold water taps, and a playground for children. Being a higher elevation lake, it often escapes the summer doldroms offering good fishing most of the season. Fly fishing is a great choice for Lac Le Jeune, as there are many different kinds of hatches throughout the season. Try a sedge pattern early on. Closer to fall, anglers will want to try a water boatman. Save these patterns for September, or when the evenings cool off. The east and west ends of the lake are shallow and reedy, and are ideal locations for dragon and damsel fly hatches. Some standards will work quite nicely in Lac Le Jeune. A Half-back Nymph, Doc Spratley, small Leech patterns and an assortment of Chironomids are all useful to have on hand. Lure fishing is very productive here. Trolling a smaller Flatfish is a good choice. Apex lures are also useful and adaptable to all kinds of angling situations. Brian Chan, from the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, says that one of the appeals of Lac le Jeune is the fishing pier. There’s a lot of space for anglers, and particularly family-friendly. The fish can grow quite large here, some up to four pounds. Lac Le Jeune is stocked each year with rainbow trout. In 2018, 12,000 Pennask strain rainbows were released. LAKE ACCESS From Kamloops, head south along the Coquihalla Highway for approximately 35 km until you reach the Lac Le Jeune Exit. Then follow the signs to the lake. The provincial park offers several amenities. Camping there is provided on a first come, first served basis, and reservations are accepted. Visit bcparks.ca for more information. Learn to Fish Workshop August 21

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will host their last Learn to Fish workshop in the region at Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park this Friday, August 21 from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Meet at the campground day-use beach. "Rapala rods will be provided for hands-on fishing. Participants will learn the basics of freshwater fishing including: hatchery roles, fish identification, regulations, proper fish handling, tackle, rod rigging, casting, and hands-on fishing." This is a free program for youth aged 5-15, with an accompanying adult. www.gofishbc.ca
