Trolling in Downtown Mackenize

Decided to head up north to Dad's for father's Day in Mackenzie, BC and take the old man fishing! None of us had ever caught a Laker before, we decided to try Morfee Lake as rumor was it had Lakers in it however, It was said they were rare/hard to catch at that lake. Williston is known for very large lakers but is also known as a very dangerous lake and was too big and unpredictable for our little aluminum. So Dad, My wife and daughter all hit Morfee lake a 5 whole minute drive I might ad! I drove the boat while Dad and my wife trolled around for hours catching panfry rainbow trout. It was nonstop action and tons of fun reeling in 1-1.5lb Blackwater rainbows all morning. It was getting around that time to head in as we were just about done for the day when my wife hooked into something much bigger than all of earlier catch's. Could this be the elusive lakers we were searching for? Well It was, and what a battle, when the fish was finally tired after a few long hard runs I tried to net him, but our net was too small, I tried again and again but it simply would not fit. So I pinned the fish to the side of the boat with the net, Grandpa quickly grabs a hold and with a strong grip of his tail, he manages to lift him aboard into he boat and lets out the loudest "WOOOOHOOOO!" I ever heard. Never seen my dad so happy, and my wife was VERY pleased with her catch as well!. All in all a great memory with the family and Grandpa, One my daughter should not forget growing up of visiting her Grand Dad. Was a very kewl trip. Not the biggest Laker by any means but a fine catch none the less just shy of 10lbs. It sure got all the local neighbors in Mackenzie talking and many I'm sure out to Morfee within the days to come. Morfee Lake surprised alot of people that day including my dad who lives 5 minutes away and had never caught one there before. We were so excited about our first Laker we decided to stay and try for another, well guess what? My wife caught another...two in one day. The next was only slightly smaller but fought even harder. Should have gone and bought a lottery ticket that day! Great times with the family, great memories, and this is what fishing is truly all about!

Whole Lotta Fun Summer Dry Fly Fishing Near the Loops

Adult Caddis a.k.a Sedges have been hatching in full force the last couple weeks and should still be good for 2-3 more. Been having an amazing summer season skating drys to interior trout, had so much fun the week previous decided it was the perfect time to get out one evening and try to make a video for everyone to see. Biggest fish this time out was only maybe approx 2.5lbs but any fish on the dry is special in my books. Great Times. Get out there and take advantage of this amazing fishery, while the gettin's good. It won't last too much longer. Sunset to Sundown is the best time to give it a go... look for rising trout and be sure to beef up those tippets and hold on as the takes can be extremely aggressive! Good Luck and TightLines Everyone...Oh and just thought to mention to please try to practice good catch and release techniques while out on the water and try not to play a fish for too long as the high water temperatures as of lately make mortality rates increase significantly. Cheers, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvg3mJ2ovNE

BC Interior Fishing Report: Chironomid Fishing is in Full Force!

Hey Everyone, The beginning of May is now here, my favorite month of the year and I just wanted to say the Interior Kamloops and area Lakes of BC are now at their peak for great fishing opportunities and should be for the next few weeks. The weather is beautiful, hot but not too hot (yet) and trout in many instances will be feeding very aggressively and sometimes almost exclusively on ascending Chironomid Pupa as they emerge to the lake surfaces. If you've never tried hanging a chironomid under an indicator, you don't know what you're missing. The fishing can be fast and furious, and 50+fish days are not uncommon. Check out these two recent vid's I put together on my youtube channel fishing with my family on two local Kamloops area lakes within a 40 minutes drive these past two weekends. If anything check out the 4:15- 5:15 minute mark of the May 1st vid to see some really kewl aerial acrobatics of these hard fighting Kamloops Trout. And if you have a youtube account please feel free to show your support by hitting the Like button, Share or subscribe for many more fishing vids and content soon to come in the near future. I really hope some of you might enjoy. : ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICOUMTseQhU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6_ZxhjWF7U pic below is of a throat sample we took on May 1st, the fish was so full of Chironomids, the throat pump plugged up while taking doing a pump. Just goes to show how effective fishing Chironomids can be! ...And Thanks to Anglers Atlas for putting out another awesome contest and for all the Staff's hard work in sharing fishing content with not just the province, but the Country as well! Cheers and Tight Lines Everyone!

Chasing Coho Chrome on the Chehalis

Chasing Coho Chrome on the Chehalis It was a looooong day of searching for Coho in the Lower Mainland, Chums were abundant but the Coho were nowhere to be found. It's the end of the day and only a couple hours before sundown, we decided to change to an entirely different river in hopes that my wife could get into her very first Coho. So we packed up and headed for the Chehalis River. Upon arrival we seen that it was in rough shape, we thought we may have made mistake by even going there as time was not on our side, the river was nearly blown out and raging. The current was so fast it was nearly impossible to float fish. We spotted a small deep slot of slow moving water tight to the bank. We knew it was going to be our only hope. Shortly after first cast, the float goes under and she missed the hook set! And then a second time again! (ouch) This time we figured it's over, all hope was lost and disappointment started to set in . Luckily the Coho must've been very stubborn or perhaps just plain suicidal..third times a charm! She sets the hook, and is hollering down the way at me as I had ventured off a ways, "I got one, I got one!". I get up close and can see she's got a Coho. Right before Sundown! I'm hollering at her "It's a Coho, It's a Coho, You got one Honey, Keep the Line tight, don't let it go loose, Don't lose it" and so on and so on. Only problem was it was a horrible place to land a fish, luckily we had a long handled net (a very rare occasion for us to even bring one along) very carefully I crawled down the embankment and together we were able to make it all happen. Her very first of the elusive Coho and on the center pin reel to boot! What a great trip! We were very fortunate this day as time closed in on us persistence paid off. We drove all the way from Kamloops for that very moment! A beautiful Chrome Chehalis Coho! One less thing on the bucket list! ; ) These are the memories we as fishermen and women will cherish and hold our entire lifetime. Tightlines Everyone

First Fin on the Pin

First Fin on the Pin If your an avid fishermen and have never used a centerpin reel before you don't know what you are missing! After reeling your 1st fish in on one, you will be hooked for life! 1:1 Ratio there's nothing better (Just watch those Knuckles!) Centerpin's are hands down the most effective and productive reel's one can use for float fishing. This was a day my wife will never forget, she was so happy. Even though the Vedder River "Red" Spring run is a small one and was at it's end, most had already come and gone by this time. We had one day in Chilliwack to try and get her into one. It was her very first of it's kind and on the centerpin to only make it that much more exciting. He was caught, quickly photographed and released back into the river to spawn for future generations to come. Good memories! Tightlines!

FlyFishing for Behemoth Brookies of the Interior

FlyFishing for Behemoth Brookies of the Interior Every year people travel from all around to come to the Interior of British Columbia, for the opportunity to tangle with our amazing and world renown Kamloops Rainbow Trout. It's no secret we have some of the best trout fishing there is hands down, especially the Kamloops area... but how many realize we are home to a world class Brook Trout fishery? Not nearly as many as you think. And did you know there are over 30+ lakes in the Thomspon Nicola Region that are stocked with Brook Trout?! The Brookies were brought here a few decades ago to combat the growing problem of winterkills that wreak havoc on our regional lakes sometimes laid desolate over the coarse of winter. The Brooks have a much better chance of survival than Rainbow's under extreme conditions, which sometimes, can make all the difference in keeping a fishery alive and thriving through a bad year. These overgrown footballs are nothing less than amazing. They are very eager biters and under the right conditions can grow exceptionally large. Their red spots with blue halos only highlight their beauty and deep red flesh makes them most excellent table fare. Surround yourself among some amazing scenery and spend a day fishing for these super aggressive hard fighting Brook trout , and it's no wonder why so many of us are proud to call Kamloops home! I wouldn't have it any other way! So next time someone speaks of the famous "Kamloops Trout", ask them which kind they are referring to! The Thompson Nicola region is not only (arguably)the best place to fish for Rainbows but is also the very best place to fish for Brookies. This picture above is my wife proudly holding up a flawless Brook Trout on a beautiful spring day of Chironomid fly fishing at it's finest! We must've hooked over 50 that day. The Brook Trout pictured above was not the only one of this magnitude reeled in that day either, all at a popular local lake about 45 minutes from the City of Kamloops... Can you guess where? ; )

C.P.R Catch, Photo, Release!

C.P.R Catch, Photo, Release! Probably the best family fishery this province has to offer, comes once every two years, and that is millions of Pinks fill the rivers to come and spawn. Not the hugest of the salmon species but very eager biters and awesome fighting fish for people of all ages. Light Tackle and Gear makes reeling in these fish even more exciting. And don't forget the fly rod! ; )

Summer Springs on the Salt

Summer Springs on the Salt We are very fortunate to have good friends that take us out once a year to fish for Springs on the Ocean, It is an experience that is second to none. We fish Chinook locally in the interior and they pull hard... but nothing like out in the tidal waters of BC.

The Big Slabowski...

The Big Slabowski Sheridan Lake Rainbows never cease amaze, hard fighting, long runs and amazing aerial acrobatics, what more can you ask for? This 7lb trophy size trout made our trip worth our while and yet does not even compare to some of the others lurking amongst the deep of Sheridan Lake. One of our most memorable fishing trips for sure, and we have alot of them ; ) Sheridan Lake is a Jewel in the Heart of BC!

Stump Lake Silver Bullets

Stump Lake Silver Bullets Thanks to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of British Columbia, Stump Lake is home to an abundance of well fed Kokanee averaging at 2plus pounds and some even much bigger. They are one of the funnest species of fish to catch and easily one of the tastiest!
