Big Pike taken late August, late afternoon. Could feel his head banging from side to side when I first set the hock, he was not happy! He was put back for another day.
For sure you need to be careful as soon as you get out of the North/South deep water parts of Mazinaw Lake. Campbell Bay, German Bay and another Bay on the extreme South end of the lake are all shallow. I usually motor in then use the electric. Mind you I have a short shaft Honda so draw about 8-12 inches of water, this makes it a bit harder to hit. It's a bummer to hit, had an inboard outboard previously and had the prop rebuilt 4-5 times! Love fishing at Mazinaw, fish are hard to find due to the depth of the lake. However, the depth of the lake allows the fish to really get big. This summer hooked into a 4 foot, 10 pound Northern Pike, hell of a fight he put up. He was released to be enjoyed by another some other day.
