Matt Zazula does most of his fishing on the prairie lakes and reservoirs of Alberta and Saskatchewan. He's a walleye tournament angler, and in the summer of 2018 he and his tournament partner Jim Clarke decided to do a self-guided trip to the Nootka Sound. Fishing out of his Tracker V18 tournament boat set up with downriggers, he and Jim spent a week salmon fishing. They came back with their limit of chinooks, a couple of nice coho salmon, and some bonus ling cod and bottom fish. Not bad for a couple of prairie boys!

First trip to the beautiful Nootka Sound area in the later part of August 2018 and the fishing was as good as the scenery. After the first day it was hard to believe the action and fight of the salmon in this area. After the second day plans were already in place to return in 2019!

True story. The one that gotta away is always bigger than the one you gotta weight. But this will do just fine.

An awesome day of fishing Nootka Sound. As these trips are very few and far between, I couldn't have been much happier. I can't wait to go again.
