About Rice Lake

Rice Lake is fairly shallow, with abundant areas of weeds and sand flats. This makes for some rich habitat. Rice Lake is best known for its bass, walleye and muskie. Bass Pro Shops’ The Fishin’ Guide, says that anglers should try the areas around Bewdley for spring walleye. “Cast a silver rattle spot, retrieving at medium speed in 5-8 feet of water. Try to cover a lot of water, the area is quite large.” In summer, things change somewhat. The walleye will head deeper through the channels at the south end of the lake. Try the area around Gores Landing, trolling slowly with a chartreuse worm harness in about 20 feet of water. The muskie fishing in Rice Lake can be spectacular. Bass Pro Shops’ Fishin’ Guide says that the fish get quite large in Rice Lake, in part due to the abundance of smaller fish.

Cover lots of water by trolling the deeper areas in the south end. "Use large body baits in perch patterns [such as] 6-9." Crankbait lures give best results. Also casting large buck tails along weedlines, especially on windy days, can be very effective [for] Rice lake musky.” Along with muskie and walleye, bass fishing can be excellent on Rice Lake, and there are bass tournaments held every year.
