Took a trip up to Shirley Lake and Booth Lake for 5 days 4 nights living off my kayak. Went up there looking for big pike. Didn't land the monster I was looking for but I landed a nice 2 footer and another smaller pike as well as a bunch of perch and smallies. Lost a nice eater lake trout when I was too slow with the net, womp womp womp....It was a great trip though, Algonquin is a beautiful and serene park where you can get away from speed boats and humans. Made a video of my travels, check it out with the link below https://youtu.be/Xzj_nWvkLts

Wilderness Pike

Access to some great wilderness Pike fishing makes the chain of lakes north west of the Opeongo river seem fairly enticing. The Chain of lakes along this popular canoe route could offer some great fishing opportunities if you visit during peak periods. The lakes will experience most traffic from May until early October at best so fishing pressure is perceptibly low. a strict catch and release approach or a selective harvest should be adhered to. this is a great wilderness fishery and is a great resource A three or four day trip on this chain of lakes with favorable weather conditions has a lot of potential. Keep in mind that you will be traveling with fishing Kayaks or Canoes and that the rapids below Booth lake will offer a challenge if water levels are high. Kitty Lake, Farm Lake, Crotch Lake and Shall lake are great alternatives if weather on Booth lake is not favorable. Bring a selection of spoons spinners, jigs swim bait rigs or jerk baits for casting, you may also consider bringing some trolling weights as well if you can find fish in some of the deeper portions of the lake.

Booth lake, Access to great Wilderness fishing

Booth Lake is a part of the Opeongo River system that connects farm lake,Crotch Lake Kitty Lake and Victoria Lake to the Opeongo River system. You can find Lake Trout, brook trout, SM bass, Perch whitefish, lake herring,White Sucker, Brown Bull head and Burbot these species are present according to the lake map from the 70' I can not vouch for this however.information over 40 years old should not be relyed upon since climate change is now contributing to changes in fish population. The lakes in this system are very remote however. impact from human activity should be very minimal and these lakes defiantly have a remote feel to them. you may only see people tripping through the lake during busy times of the year. Recent population studies (conducted in early 90s) have included the introduction of Northern Pike into the Opeongo, Booth Lake system. There are only a handful of lakes known to have a population of Northern Pike in the Algonquin Highlands. Booth,Kitty,Farmer and Crotch as well as the lower Opeongo River into Victoria Lake as well as Sec, Wet and Johnny Lakes to the North east. Of course use of live bait is prohibited, including use of leeches. Target fish with chub, shad, sucker or whitefish imitating lures.use any life like plastic minnows or tubes or grubs to target fish. drop shooting or jigging with buck tails or jig heads. use flashy inline spinners or buck tail spinners to search for active fish. Being a remote lake without easy access to fast powerboats this lake should have better then average sized fish most photos suggest that pike over ten pounds can be found here . The lake is a great option for fishing from a canoe or Kayak, consider using inflatable zodiacs perhaps, a small gas powered motor will help you cover water. I believe that there are horse power restrictions also. its going to require several portages though the system from either the Opeongo lake access point or access from Crotch Lake put-in. The drive from Major Lake Road is 24 Km from Hwy 60. take the time to plan any outing to these lakes as travel time on remote roads is extensive.
