About LAC LA BICHE

Lac La Biche is a picturesque lake most popular for its walleye and northern pike fishing in the lake. Perch are also caught in the lake. Because of its popularity and abundance of fish, the angling pressure can be intense. Lac La Biche is stocked with nearly 25,000 walleye, part of efforts to rehabilitate the lake. Lac La Biche is not part of the walleye tag system and the walleye fishery is catch and release only.

While the perch can be more plentiful at times, pike fishing brings with it the excitement of landing the big one. iFish Alberta user Bilski reports "good fishing by the causeway. Jackfish will bite spoons." Another iFish Alberta user, Greenflyingpig, reports lots of walleye "about 300 metres straight out from the Provincial Park boat launch. Lots of algae in the water [but] went out into the middle and the water is clear. Caught a 75 cm jackfish using a heavy Krocodile silver lure."

Lac La Biche is relatively shallow and in many parts can be weedy during the summer months. The best time for fishing here is spring and fall, although ice fishing is a big draw as well.

Heading to Lac La Biche this weekend from Manitoba. Wondering if the lake is driveable by truck? I don’t have a lake contour map. Any pointers? Hope to fish Sat am and Sunday. Could use some local knowledge. Where to get a license and bait. Anxious to catch( and release) an Alberta walleye!

One of the most exciting parts of ice fishing other than reeling in a fish is the excitement of seeing your tip up flag go up and not knowing what you will pull up through the ice!

A look admiration. The smile says it all with this walleye.

My dad was able to reel in this healthy walleye on our annual ice fishing trip to Lac La Biche. This trip is the end of our ice season but only gets us more excited to fish open water in the summer!

One beautiful summer morning, we loaded up the boat and our 2 canine companions, who enjoy being on the lake as much as we do, and headed out on Lac La Biche lake. We were out on the lake enjoying the peacefulness just casting to see what might be biting that day and we proceeded to catch so many beautiful walleye that day.

16lb beauty caught in the magic hole of the day. Pulled 3 walleye and 2 pike from here while everyone around was striking out and looking for my secret to success. Truth be told it was the right place and time as much as the right lure/bait. New record for me in countless years fishing Lac La Biche Lake. Only wish my filleting knife was bigger that day. Caught in January 2018 by the mouth of the owl river.
