About LAKE LUCILLE
Lucille Lake is out near Pemberton, right in the middle of a series of great alpine fishing lakes. Lucille Lake is one of the few lakes in the Whistler area that have a thriving population of brook trout. Brook trout prefer deeper, cool water, and Lucille Lake fits that bill. Jason Akl, from Bass Pro Shops, says that fly fishing for brook trout is ideal for both beginners and experts, because brook trout will readily go after a wide variety of flies in a great range of sizes. This is a perfect time to experiment! Akl recommends weighted flies in the spring, large and colourful dry flies in the summer, and streamer patterns in the fall to go after the more aggressive feeding at that time.

Caution is warranted here, particularly during a warm spell. A little further north, and the lakes freeze regularly. A little further south, and they don’t freeze very often. There have been reports that Lucille Lake can be good for ice fishing during a very cold year, however, Clint Goyette, from Valley Fishing Guides, says that in fact, Lucille Lake does not freeze all that well, and despite appearances, ice fishing is not recommended here.
LAKE ACCESS
From Whistler, head south on Hwy 99 for about 28 km. Just past the second Garibaldi Rd on the right (west), look for Chance Creek Forest Service Rd. on the right. The lake is not too far in, however, it’s important to consult updated road maps, particularly when travelling along backroads. There are beaches at either end of Lucille Lake, and some shore access for fishing.
