Trout are being caught in the one and half to two pound range. One angler reported a monster fish nibble at his line - guessing at six pounds. Popular lures are jigs, and for the fly fishers - a balance leech. Power bait and worms also working. Good depth to try is 18 to 20 feet depths, but sometimes the shallows also produce good results. The ice should be decent on Osprey Lake generally sometime in the first 2 weeks of January. Not time to go out just yet, still uncertain about the ice.
Okanagan Lake decent
Okanagan reports of some decent rainbows caught on bucktails, #215 and lyman's #4 in colors 98, 101 and 30. There are some diehard's that continue to get trout on this lake but lot's of time and working different patterns at various depths.
Almost there
There's ice on the top of Shannon Lake, but still not enough to walk on. We're leery about the thickness and safety of the ice on most of the Okanagan lakes. But a general rule of thumb is first two weeks of January there is a decent amount of thickness of ice. Wait a few weeks yet!
Always a favourite!
Mabel Lake fishing well lately. Stick near the river mouth close to the provincial park. Fly fishers are succeeding with big leech and minnow patterns. Gear fishers have luck with spoons and spinners in gold or silver.
No ice yet!
Won't be long until Shannon Lake freezes over. Until then, decent size fish still being caught in the 1 to 4 lb range. Use Leech patterns and dragonfly nymphs. Stick close to the golf course.
Great conditions
Okanagan Lake has been great lately. Lake doesn't generally freeze over. Fish are being caught on bucktails, and apexes in pink and white, and jet black. Anglers are running their presentations along the very top of the water.
