A couple of friends and I were headed out fishing when the road we were on was washed out. We couldn’t cross it to get to our intended spot, but had seen a sign for Pitoney Lake a few miles back. We decided to check it out, not knowing anything about the lake. As we pulled up, we could see a few rises, and figured, since it was in the Prince George area, they were likely Rainbows. Not long after we got onto the lake, I got into a fish – my reel started screaming and I got into my backing in a hurry. Having no idea what was in this lake, I couldn’t believe that I was getting into a fish large enough to do this. After fighting the fish long enough to get a good forearm burn going, I land a Lake Trout. I had been trying to catch a Laker on a fly for years with no luck. All it took was going to a lake I didn't plan on going to, didn't know anything about, and didn't know what fish were in it to cross that item off my bucket list.
