Boat launch Update

Hey..!! all you fisher persons... As debra1 posted...There has been a lot of activity going on in regards to a complete over-haul of the peace park boat launch & mooring dock.We now have a newly constructed double wide boat launch, plus a brand new boat dock and break water..!! construction started late last October...and is well on the way to completion..the new break water is a welcome addition because when the wind comes up on Dinosaur..?? getting your boat in..and out of the water used to be a major chore...but with the break water extending roughly 75 meters out from shore now?? Loading and unloading your boat is well... lets just say,,a Breeze??!! lol I decided to try my luck this past long week -end ,but the fish just didn't seem to be very active..!! I tried enticing them with my favourite Fly's.. and also used a spinning outfit, with different spoons and spinners....but no takers at all... the lake itself was fairly high..and water clarity was very poor due to the spring melt..but I personally blame the slow fishing mostly on the water Temperature..!! Water temperature is very important when it comes to how active the fish will be..and with the lake at a balmy 39 C..?? I am convinced they just were not in a feeding pattern at all...J.M.O. of course..!! but I have seen this type of situation many times ,in the last 20 years plus fishing this lake. I intend to try it again next Week end...so until then..?? Tight Line's...and Calm Waters

All Weather Walleye...

This spring proved to be a challenge when I visited Charlie lake this year. Due to a heavy snow pack over the past winter, the water level was very high, and finding feeding fish was a bit of a challenge.Spring run off brought a lot of mud ,silt and sediment from the tributaries and along with submerged wood and debris..played havoc with my depth finder and boat. The fish flies were at the peak of their early spring time hatch, and they were so thick that you need not to have brought a lunch.!! their numbers and volume were at a level so immense that the surrounding area sounded as if there were a gas powered generator running steady.I figured that the walleye were either still spawning or were just entering their post spawn activities. This was the first week in June, and temperatures were still fluctuating above the surface...and below as well.I chose to start fishing in 4 meters of water, staying fairly tight to the shore line ..my lure of choice was a floating Rapala shad imitation, with an 1/8 ounce weight..this combo kept me tight to the bottom and allowed me to troll slowly while bottom bouncing.Although this pattern proved to work...it was difficult to control my speed and maintain a consistent depth due to gusty winds and thunder storms . I then decided that it might be better to just anchor in the proper depth and switch over to 1/8 oz jigs.(chartruse/black power grubs.) This too worked quite well, and my partner and myself had no trouble leaving Charlie with our 3 fish limit at the end of the day.I was hoping to hook into a few of the jumbo perch that are also in the shallows of the lake..but no such luck.! On my second visit to Charlie, the weather had stabilized and the water temp was a balmy 56 c which seemed to get the walleye in a feeding frenzy..!! It was June 24/11 and the action was frantic..!! we managed to land a 6 kg pike after a lengthy battle...my rapala took a beating but survived.! We again failed to hook any perch...but we were so busy having fun with the walleye ...we hardly noticed. I have caught some very respectable perch in this lake...also some sizable ling-cod.(Burbot) I reside in Chetwynd...but I make it a point to make several trips to Charlie lake every year... the fishing is alway's good ,and it is a great place to take your kids. Both boat launches are open until the fall,I prefer to use the launch on the Charlie lake store side...(the Alaska highway side...there are a few rocks to watch out for... but other wise..it is just fine. There are plenty of camp site's at both provincial park's and lots to do and see for the young...and the young at heart..Tight lines to all.!! hope to see you out there..!!

Breath taking ...and Beautiful..!!

Azzuezetta Lake in the pine pass, is a very under-rated fishing Destination in the Peace....the fishing is hot and cold, but the scenery makes up for any small flaw's it might have.I highly recommend this lake as a well maintained summer getaway.

Who say's you need a boat??

Hi all..!! when i first moved to the peace region,i didn't have a boat...so it really got me thinking as to whether it was possible to fish this lake strickly from the shore line, using a method that i had named THE POPPER ..!! Which was quite simply just taking foam ear plugs..(about 12 at a time ) and feeding them onto a single piece of fishing line, using a medium sized needle leaving a little bit of space between each one. Then... i went to my local hardware store, and purchased a can of flouresent orange spray paint.I sprayed a coat of paint on all of the ear plugs..let them dry.. then repeated this about 3-4 times allowing enough time for each coat of paint to dry. Then i would just keep them on the fishing line until i needed one.(it kept them neat and tidy) I alway's kept them in a seperate container in my tackle, along with the needle the best way i found for these to work was to take the needle.. feed your line from the rod thru the needle and then feed the needle thru the ear plug. Then add a small bead..(whatever colour you preffer)then tie your hook to your line. Add a small snap swivel about 14" above your hook by just feeding the line thru the swivel eyelet in a half hitch. Depending on current speed add a Tear-drop weight..approx..1/8 ounce to the snap swivel, the snap swivel gives you the option to change the weight size at your leisure.Bait the hook with a small peice of shrimp..then cast it out .. and just take the slack out of your line.. and prop the rod on a stick ..and let it sit.I managed to catch a 10 lb plus rainbow from shore using this method. I found it inexspensive...and I use this same rig in all our river's and streams and lakes..ALL just from shore!! It is very important to be sure and paint the earplugs, or they will just get water logged and sink to the bottom. This method made it possible for alot of my friends and family to be able to take part in the sport of fishing while at the same time ..eliminated the need to have a boat..!! I also have many elderly friends, who now are elated..!! that they can sit a chair on the shore..relax and enjoy their outing without the problems that would normally come with fishing from a small boat,I hope that this little tip will help fisher persons of ALL ages to be able to get out into our great outdoors..and enjoy a little fishing as well as the Beautiful scenery that we are blessed with ..here in the peace country..!! Tight lines.!! and Good Luck !!
