Matt Zazula and his tournament fishing partner Jim Clarke were on Pine Coulee Reservoir in southern Alberta in mid-May 2019 getting the boat and equipment tuned up for the 2019 walleye tournament season. They were dragging walleye rigs in hopes of taking a few home for the frying pan. Jim’s rod came to life, and the result wasn’t what they expected. After a lively fight, Jim pulled in a fantastic rainbow trout. A few high fives were exchanged and pictures taken, and the rigs went back in the water. 20 minutes later, Jim hooked up on a second beauty. The two fish were almost carbon copies of each other, with the largest measuring 29 1/2 inches (75 cm). Each fish weighed 12 lbs 4 oz.. The 2 unexpected rainbows capped off a great day on the water.
