About WABAMUN LAKE

Wabamun Lake, west of Edmonton, is a popular year-round destination for anglers lured by its pike and walleye. The lake is heavily stocked with walleye. "Fishing is good to very good all along the north side between the Hamlet of Fallis and Seba Beach," says Daryl Ostopowich, field staff for Angler's Atlas. "Ideally, you want to be about 10-15 metres away from the reeds and casting toward them. Trolling all along this area will also yield pike."

Last September, Ostopowich went out and anchored down in about 12 feet of water. Popular lures were Blue Fox spoons, Red Devils, Five of Diamonds, and perch-looking lures. In the morning and late evening, he suggests using darker colours on the spoons. "Sometimes we use jigs," says Ostopowich. "A black grub/twister with a yellow jughead does well in the morning and evening, and the opposite colours work during the day. Between the two of us, in about 1.5 hours, we caught approximately 37 lbs. of northern pike (seven fish)!

Approximate location of a shallow spot w/ deep water all around it that isn't listed on depth charts - not shallow enough to hit but less than 2m depth in 2021.

Depth chart isn't accurate around here (approximate location), it was far shallower than is listed, probably less than 2 meters in one spot with deep water around it.

Yeah I look like an ape in this photo, whatever. Along the (mostly private) piers on Seba beach is great for mostly walleye over a foot long, and not as commonly but still possibly, pike. If you go near the reeds in a little boat, I’m sure you’d catch loads of pike, around a foot and a half long. I use perch lures and mister twisters most of the time which are great throughout morning, afternoon, and night. I’d recommend 8lb line for somewhat experienced anglers so it’s more fun reeling em in. Also, you can catch monsters on seba beach if you’re lucky, I caught a pike that was probably around 7 lbs and 2 feet long one time but it broke the line right before I landed him. Good luck!
