About GULL LAKE

Gull Lake is part of Aspen Beach Provincial Park, a popular summer destination because of its sandy beaches, warm water for swimming, and good fishing. The park fills quickly on summer weekends due to its proximity to Red Deer and Edmonton.

Large and shallow, the lake has been stocked with walleye in recent years. The west side of the lake is known for its good fishing. Trolling with bottom bouncers is effective for picking up big jackfish. Anglers can also catch pike and walleye casting off the dock.

In the wintertime, whitefish, pike, and burbot are plentiful, good-sized, and usually easy to catch while ice fishing. Use a slow retrieve with a small worm or bedhead nymph. Bait, including dead bait fish, is permitted in this lake. The diversion canal that drains into the lake is closed to angling year-round.

LAKE ACCESS

Gull Lake is a short drive northwest of Red Deer. Follow Hwy. 2 north to Hwy. 12 and turn left. The lake is roughly 10 km from the turnoff and is located on the north side of the road.

The park, one of the oldest in Alberta, is located in the southwest shore. Brewers Campground, serviced with 300 sites, includes a boat launch.

The day started out very windy. Must have been 2 foot waves on lake to start the trip. I was taking my father out to fill some walleye tags and we were very discouraged by weather. We stuck it out in a bay near by till the weather passed. We headed to our spot and started jigging walleye on what turned out to be the best walleye chop on the water! This was the first fish we landed! 58cm. Biggest walleye I've ever caught and I got to share it with dad! Wont forget it

First time ice fishing for this little guy. Been out before but usually making snow angels or sliding around on a clear spot. This time he took interest in catching a fish, but just couldn't quite nail it. We baited more than a few hooks for him but luck was on the fish side that day. Very stoked to have another fishing buddy. Cheers.
