Perch and Pike fishery doing well

Recent reports for perch and pike are good. Use minnows, both the small scoop minnows for perch and maybe some larger shiners for the pike. Also try some jigging lures. Ice fishing near Port Bolster

A few recent reports of ice fishing near POrt Bolster, behind the island. Catching perch in the 25 foot depth. Some ice huts showing up, but the ice is still thin in many places (or open). Use caution. To keep up to date on local conditions, drop by Trombly's Tackle Box in Orilla for regular reports. We're located at 595 West Street South. Nick.

Ice fishing for pike and pickerel on Lake St. John

Good reports coming in for pike and pickerel fishing on Lake St. John. Recommend using a williams lure, tipped with a minnow. Access to Lake St. John is along Rama Road (Simcoe County Rd 44) along the east side of Lake Couchiching. Follow this road north to either Airport road or Longford Mills Road. Both roads lead to the lake. The lake access at Longford Mills puts you into a walkout bay where there is pike. If you follow Airport Road, that takes you to a point with good fishing for walleye and pike. Ice fishing begins, but ice thin near channel

Some places have 4 to 5 inches of ice, but it's still sketchy near the channel, where there is running water. If you are going out now, take an ice pick and keep checking the ice for thickness every few steps. Went out fishing last Wednesday and caught lots of perch in about 12 to 15 feet of water, using a slab grabber. Some people also using buckshots. Fishing the Narrows for Perch

About the only action happening right now is the odd guy fishing for perch in the narrows, between Simcoe and Couch. We're praying for cold weather -- supposed to get down to minus 10 soon, hopefully long enough to give us a good layer of ice to get on the lakes. For more fishing tips and current conditions, drop in to Trombly's Tackle Box . We're located in Orilla at 595 West Street South. Merry Christmas, John.
