My dad and his friend Harry fulfilling their lifetime goal of catching a bigger fish than me! 30lb lake trout! What a catch!

As you can see I was pretty excited to catch this little Ouananiche! I thought catching fish in the winter time out on Trout Lake in North Bay Ontario was impossible (due to my record)! But I was very excited when I felt a bite on the end of my line. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a Ouananiche, a landlocked type of Atlantic Salmon. Ever since I have caught this fish, many people have been telling me that Ouananiche are very rare in this lake and that they had never seen one before. I did some research and learned that due to a stocking program from the MNR beginning in 1935, the Ouananiche population in Trout Lake became the only known self-perpetuating Atlantic Salmon population in Ontario. So it was pretty neat to learn that Ouananiche are surviving and reproducing in the lake i grew up on; Trout Lake!
