It is not always easy to get a canoe into places. A Friend and I decided that blow-up toys would be an acceptable alternative, this was what started a fintastic summer of fishing!
April Madness using Dry Flies on the Crooked River! A selection of hand tied flies from the previous season turned the heads of many Rainbows on this day!
An elusive Bull trout from Kenneth Creek. This fish was directly underneath the bank I had been using for cover to catch rainbows from. As I stood up to leave I noticed him before he saw me. All it took was 5 feet of line and a small flick upstream along the bank with a large stonefly nymph pattern. Then there was the issue of landing him with all the beaver dams in the way. The light was astounding as I was bringing him in. On my 4th attempt to land him I pulled out my camera and took a quick snap before he again retreated to the depths of this small creek.
Conrad with a beautiful Bull Trout caught on a massive streamer. "We were fishing for Arctic Grayling in the pool above in the photo when this Bull kept chasing every Grayling we hooked into. My friend continued to fish for Grayling while I switched my fly. She caught two more Grayling stirring the Bull trout into a frenzy. At this point, I made my first cast with my streamer and he struck! It was an epic fight and even better release!"
A brief trip home to spend time with family resulted in a gorgeous hike through the mountains. I brought my fly rod along in hopes of hooking into some Cutthroat on the dry.
