Steelhead fishing

Out on Monday 24th on a guided trip. This is my partner Patrick with a nice 10 pounder. First time fishing for steelhead. We did very well according to our guide, Kevin from Murphy's Outfitters here on Vancouver island And caught 4 with 2 lost. This was catch and release only. . Highlight of the trip was an encounter with a black bear That had went into our boat and took our lunch.

I am new to this site, but an avid fisherman. I need some help in understanding something. Does anyone have any information that supports electric trolling motors impact on the fishery of a lake. . How can this be true? Does not seem possible.Sure hope someone with more experience than I can answer this thanks

SPIDER LAKE ACCESS

To Whom it may concern: Spider Lake Provincial Park was established in June of 1981. It is considered one of the best picnic sites in the area featuring a small sandy beach perfect for all ages, including the age friendly and disability friendly. It is also and excellent lake for canoeing , kayaking , rowing a boat and excellent for fishing bass and rainbow trout. The proximity to Qaulicum Beach, Parksville and Courtney make it very accessible. It is unfortunate that we have inadequate facilities to complement the Provincial Accessibility Act and our provinces “ Accessibility 2024 which was created in 2014. There are two obstacles that encroach on the complete and full enjoyment of this beautiful lake. 1. The ability to launch a water craft easily and safely. The present access for watercraft is situated on a very dangerous part of Lakewood Road which carries a lot of traffic including the heavy trucks from the local quarry The site itself has had huge boulders placed on it to prevent visitors from launching a watercraft from a trailer. The ban on electric motors. The ban on electric motors is neither user friendly nor safe for the age friendly and disability friendly identified under the Accessibility Act . Of particular interest is that no one has any record of the RDN ( Region of Nanaimo ) ever applying for the right to post this ban on Spider Lake. It is unreasonable to ask a recreational visitor to the lake who is caught in a rainfall or high winds to quickly return to their vehicles without an electric motor. This access site was chosen by Parks Canada which at the time disregarded those age friendly and disability friendly recreational visitors to the park/lake safe and easy access. We are asking for your full support of this petition by the Oceanside Anglers Association to have a ramp put in that meets the requirements of the Accessibility Act and in an new safe location. We are also asking that the ban on electric motors be removed. Please take a moment to support this petition which all of us will benefit including our children and grandchildren. SPIDER LAKE ACCESS

There is really no access for the Senior Friendly nor Disability Friendly on this lake. The access BC Parks put in is dangerous and surrounded by rocks to purposely hinder the launching of a boat by these groups. We at Oceanside Anglers are trying to change this and have a permanent safe access ramp put in for all anglers and recreational people. Will you join us in this venture please. We also are having the restriction on Electric Motors lifted. Please contact Joe Dennie at [email protected]
