Not even a little wind chill...
Not even a little wind chill can dissuade this kid. Perch were biting great this day. Loads of fun reeling them in and throwing them back. Thermos of hot chocolate filled with marsh mellows and this kid is in heaven. Nothing beats rosy cheeks on a frozen lake.

We caught this baby gar in a net just off shore. As you can see little sister in the background ready to catch her own. A very exciting time as I remember catching these guys when I was that age in this exact spot at the family cottage. These are the times I live for.

It was summer holidays and we had big plans to do some boating and fishing with the kids. We were excited. We could not wait! Except what we didn’t know at the time was how much our 2 year old disliked, ok, hated, the wind. Which made being out in the boat as a family a little difficult to say the least. But my husband wasn’t about to give in. Our son, was an avid fisherman already by the age of 2, so he was determined to have his little girl there too passing the worms and reeling in the big ones. This day started out good, we were up early to hit the lake while it was still calm so maybe we could catch some lunch (and me a few rays). And then the wind came. And so did the screams and tears. We tried to shush, we tried to hide in towels, and we even tried gummy bears. I gave my husband the look. We have to go. We have to go now. One last cast he says. And boy, did it turn out to be a great cast! Our son without hesitation grabbed the net and helped Daddy land this fighter. As you can see, our wee girl still not impressed. We’re working on it.

We have a camp near Sundridge. It was a perfect summer day to hike down to the river and jump in the canoe. Before I could even say “grab your life jacket” Nolan was ready with the worms. It’s really the only time this kid is dressed and ready in a flash. We pack a lunch, can of bug spray (summer in Ontario!) and away we go. Horseflies are usually the only thing biting but this day we got lucky and reeled in this beauty.

Nolan was 3 years old here. He is now 5 and will still tell this fish story! I think this solidified his love for fishing.

It was summer 2013 and mommy just had a baby. I’m a big brother now! Mommy is resting comfortably at home which means me and Daddy are finally free to hit the lake. I can’t wait to tell mommy and my brand new baby sister about the fish I caught today! We are truly lucky to live in such an incredible Country of lakes and rivers, all practically in our backyard.
