You know when you live in Canada when you're out fishing in -25°c weather! My son Darin and a friend Eric were very successful fishing one evening. As they were taking a fish off a hook to put back, as there is a slot size on pickeral at lake clear, their other lines started dropping. Darin ran to this line because he knew it had to have been a whopper that would take the large minnow he had on. He had the fish brought up to the hole many times but on the 3rd try he was able to steer it's head up the opening. It was then that he realized that the pike spit out one hook and the second hook was barely holding. He shouted to Eric to grab his fish. Eric started putting his hand down the hole and seen all the teeth and said no way. It took some convincing but he did reach down and helped Darin land this 17.8lb 39" northern pike. Despite having a 10" hole drilled, they struggled pulling it out and up through the ice. What a rush! He even made it into the Eganville Leader. Check it out on Facebook. Darin took it to grandpa verch for supper. Grandpa could not eat his catch. He told Darin that he'll never catch a fish like that ever again and convinced him to mount it!
