This is one of my favorite lakes to chase lake trout. Its one of those lakes where they really love spoons over most of the regular baits I would use in other lakes. This uniqueness allows for some drifting and casting for some of these fish. Early in the spring when they are between 10- 15 feet finding a few on a point when trolling then heading back for a drift over and casting and jigging the spoons is very productive.

This fish was a bit of a surprise for me, when he was hooked he rolled several times and managed to wrap his gill plates closed. This also made it virtually impossible to bring his nose thu the hole as he was now caught by the side of the head. I had to reach into the water all the way to my shoulder and stick my hand in its mouth and allow him to bite down on my hand so that i could lead his head up thru the hole. I was able to get him untangled and breathing and back on his way very quickly. My hand bleed for about 15 mins from the many tiny slashes from the teeth. But it was worth it to be able to help this fish on its way.

I love to drive all over our province looking for different species to catch . We love to head up to Swan Lake north to catch pike, walleye and a bunch of perch for dinner.

It had been an amazing day to this point with having caught several really nice char I decided I was going to catch a couple of those huge Kokanee so the only lighter rod I had was my 5wt fly rod. I was trolling a wedding band with a worm and as we did the turn to head back out the weight i used must have dropped my bait down deep and this beautiful char grabbed it. I have never heard a 5wt fly reel screech and sing like it did this day. I did manage to land this fish without too much issue but the initial run was amazing.

This fish was a miracle landing. I was fishing for rainbows close to shore with a small Northland jig about 1/8 oz . I had several rainbows landed by mid afternoon when this fish hit my jig in 4 feet of water . My light line and tackle was put to the test on this day as it took over 15 mins to get my first peek at this bad boy. Eventually I was able to land him and get a picture of a lifetime and release to swim another day.
