almost 10 years ago a half million 10 to 12 pound fish escaped from a commercial hatchery here. they are triploid rainbow steelhead cross. now people are catching 40 plus pound fish here !
one of the most scenic spots around, the blue green water is very clear and when the sky reflects is even nicer. the lake is stocked with rainbows from summerland hatchery. most fish caught were 3 to 6 lb. mine was 14 inches and very tasty roasted with wild onion. these kettle lakes were made by big chunks of ice that broke off receding glaciers and sunk in the mud to melt slowly. the upwelling caused by this splash in mud is the round formations around the lake (kames). before the ice age it was a shallow sea. the white sand around the lake is seashells from this time and some can be found intact still. the calcium from these shells supports a large population of gammarus shrimp and also creates QUICKSAND beside the water. the campground is well run and toilets kept clean.
