Dam with fish ladder. Hot spot.

Dead heads, small fish, tag system and a dam.

I was at the lake late May 2012. WARNING! BIG dead heads everywhere! Especially where deep water shelves meet shallow water. Some even in 36' of water! Be very careful. The lake is getting fished out. We caught a lot of walleye and pike, but ALL were very small - 1-2lbs. As a result, SRD has instituted a special tag system for here and Smoke lake. You buy tags for walleye at any location selling fishing licenses. NO draw, you just buy tags. See regs for details. The locals all say to fish the drop off ledges with a minnow and jig. There is an outlet on the very North east end that is dammed and has a fish ladder. Very neat thing to see. It is supposed to be another hot spot near the dam. Very narrow channel about 1km long to get to it. It was 4' deep all the way until the dam when I was there. Watch for submerged logs. ILLEGAL to fish below the dam within a specified distance in the regs. SRD said above the dam is OK.
