Atlantic Sturgeon
The Atlantic Sturgeon is a large fish found along the east coast of Canada and the United States, from northern areas down to Florida. It lives in rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters, usually near the bottom. This fish eats small animals like insects, clams, and tiny fish. Most Atlantic sturgeon grow to about 6–8 feet long, but some can get much bigger. They are known for their hard bony plates (called scutes), long snout, and ability to live for over 60 years. Anglers who are allowed to catch them typically use bottom fishing techniques with heavy gear and bait like worms or cut fish, but many populations are protected, so fishing for them is often restricted or catch-and-release only.
