Tracking Blotchy Bass Syndrome Across North America using MyCatch

Blotchy Bass Syndrome is a disease that affects black bass (micropterus species) and appear as black marks on the external surface of the bass. Recently, these black marks have been associated with a novel emerging adomavirus and has prompted the US Geological Survey and West Virginia University to launch a research project studying the distribution and prevalence of this disease. MyCatch was brought onto the team to help develop a citizen science program using the mobile app, so the project could be easily scaled and standardized. Bass Pro is also a supporting partner in this research project, providing prizing to incentivize anglers to report their catches.
