The Abbotts with their largest Halibut caught for the 2017 season. Anchored at Esperanza Reef 6 miles off the beach on a sunny June afternoon this hali picked up their XL Herring. It took a tag team effort to capture this 69lber

On a Sunny Saturday March 24, 2018 John, Kathy, Ray & Desiree Caught their Limit of Halibut just off Esperanza Reef. The recent huge spawn of Herring in Esperanza Inlet has drawn large numbers Hali & Ling inshore for GOOD access Fishing/Catching. This inshore fishery will remain strong to early June. 2018 May Fishing/Catching May be the Best Ever! Why? Halibut, Ling Cod and other Bottom fish have moved close inshore to feed on the huge schools of spawning Herring & Candle fish. These fish will remain on shore until mid-June. Many Salmon also move into these feeding grounds in May. In Nootka Sound Maquinna Pt., Beano Creek and the seaward side of the Spanish Island group are all holding fish. In Esperanza Inlet Outer Black Rock to Obstruction Reef, Nuchatlitz, Rosa Harbour and the world Famous Ferrer Point are all Good bets for HOOKING UP! FISH ON!!! The month of May has always been one of the locals secrets! Over the past two seasons (2016 & 2017) the catching in May has really picked up pace. The likely increase in Catching is related to the closure of the Commercial Herring Fishery in our area since 2015. This closure has no doubt also positively affected all Sport Fishing in Area 25 (Esperanza & Nootka). The catching is generally on inside water in May because of the concentration of the fish in the above noted locations. So weather is seldom a factor. May is the month for the Esperanza Triple header. "Salmon - Halibut - Ling Cod" Filling the Fish Box! [email protected]
