Some times it takes a hard journey in life to get u back to the things u really love ... fishing. After a trying bout with aggressive breast cancer and a few other major associated surgeries I started living by a new rule. “Am I doing what I need to be doing today? If not ... disappoint somebody”. I haven’t looked back since haha. Purchased a Thule kayak lift assist, modified my kayak, kayak dolly + pelican snow sled specific to me and my needs, purchased a portable Humminbird and made the best new fishing friends a girl could ask for (Papa Smurf aka Todd, Jodi and Denise). This trio have made it possible for me to accomplish fishing trips most people without challenges couldn’t do. Love this group❣️ Apparently there was an associated curse amongst the group to catching walleye on Hwy527 during the winter months. Well this trip was my last chance to help disprove this annoying curse until spring so I loaded every lure I had not sure what it was gonna take to achieve this seemingly annoying task lol So Denise pulled out her trusty map and taking into consideration where we normally go ... she started drilling holes. There is something to be said about the freedom an electric auger gives you, just saying. It was a little colder than we wanted so we both did a lot of jigging to stay warm lol. Fairly quickly Denise landed a pike on her dead stick and I landed a pike on my rattlin Lindy. It went like this all day, making it seem the curse was going to be the victor once again. I was mid-rip and something crushed my rattler just like the pike had been all day. It was taking line and doing some head shakes but nothing to indicated it was anything different to what we had been getting all day until I saw the head trying to come up the hole...at that point I screamed like a little girl at the back of a bus ... “ OMG the curse is over Denise...it’s a freakin wally “lol. That was the only walleye of the day but what a fish it was ... 21” of blue finned yumEness! That lunker still has me smiling today ... can’t wait till I am back doing what I need to be doing ... 🎣 fishing❣️ Selfishyakgirl Jen Campbell 382 Erle Thunder Bay ON P7A1N7 807-630-2535
