White Lake

White lake is close to my heart as I grew up on this lake at the family cottage. White lake is marginal for lake trout water quality, bordering at mesotrophic level and is therefore stocked yearly with Splake by MNR as a put-grow-take fishery. Most splake are taken icefishing, however they are caught in the shallows in the spring of the year after ice-out, and can be found in teh deeper basins during the summer, I have found jigging minnows to be effective. The lake bottoms out around 80 feet in the main basin near the big island, and shallows out to the south at a marshy area. The east side of the island drops off steeply and has some great rocks to jump out from. Water clarity is good. Much of the lake is a sandy bottom. I have found the smallmouth bass in this lake are a unique colour, a pale beige sandy colour which nearly matches the sandy bottom substrate. Good populations of pike and largemouth are present as well. To my knowledge I do not believe there is a public launch on this lake.
