PILLAR LAKE
British Columbia

This week we observed a school of Kokanee in the shallows (1 meter deep), along the east side of the lake, in the morning. There had to be 50 or more 1.5 to 2-pounders together. All had the distinctive spawning colours of the Sokeye salmon. I did not have the heart to tell them that they will not be producing any off-spring.
