Rock Sole

The Rock Sole is a right-eyed flatfish identifiable by its flattened, oval body, adapted for life on the seafloor. The eyed side is mottled gray-brown to olive with darker speckling for camouflage, while the underside is white to pale cream. It has rough, sandpaper-like scales that help distinguish it from smoother flatfish species, along with a relatively small mouth. Rock Sole are commonly found resting on sandy or gravelly bottoms in coastal and continental shelf waters of the North Pacific.
