Rock prickleback can be found in the Eastern Pacific from Port San Juan, southeastern Alaska to Santa Cruz Island, southern California, USA. They like to live in rocky areas, from intertidal to 18 m depth, mostly on exposed coast. Rock prickleback can remain out of water under rocks or seaweed. They mostly feed om algae.
