Golden Redhorse
Moxostoma erythrurum

Golden Redhorse
The Golden Redhorse can be found throughout the Midwestern, Southern, and Eastern United States, as well as in the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba in Canada. This species is often found in silty or sandy waters and prefers calm streams, rivers, and lakes. As bottom-feeders, Golden Redhorse feed upon microcrustaceans, small mollusks, aquatic insects, detritus, and algae. They can reach an average length of 12–18 inches (30–46 cm) and an average weight of 1–2 pounds (0.45–0.91 kg), with some fish reaching 26 inches (66 cm) and 4–5 pounds (1.8–2.3 kg). These fish are golden hued, with olive coloured backs, white bellies, gray fins, and have 39 to 42 lateral line scales. Golden Redhorse can be caught using techniques similar to those used for other bottom-feeding species like catfish and suckers, such as using worms near the bottom of the waterbody. Golden Redhorse are spring spawners and can live to at least 17 years of age. Source: Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_redhorse)
