Brown Trout

Anadromous Brown Trout, Salmo trutta

Brown Trout

Brown Trout are freshwater fish in the salmon family, recognized by their olive-brown to golden coloration, dark spots, and reddish spots often surrounded by pale halos, along with a sturdy, streamlined body. Native to Europe and western Asia, Brown Trout have been widely introduced to North America, including much of Canada and the United States, where they inhabit cool rivers, streams, and lakes with clean, well-oxygenated water. They are aggressive and highly adaptable feeders, consuming aquatic insects, terrestrial insects, crustaceans, small fish, fish eggs, and occasionally amphibians.
