Atlantic Tarpon

Atlantic Tarpon are a large, elongate fish identifiable by their massive upturned mouth, very large reflective silver scales, and a deeply forked tail with an extended last dorsal fin ray. The back is blue-green to dark gray, fading to bright silver sides. Adults can exceed 2 m (6+ ft) in length. Tarpon can gulp air at the surface using a modified swim bladder, helping them survive in low-oxygen waters. They inhabit coastal waters, estuaries, and tropical nearshore environments, feeding on fish and crustaceans.
