Atlantic Spadefish

Atlantic Spadefish have deep, disc-shaped bodies and are silvery grey in colour with three to six distinct black vertical bands along their sides. They commonly reach about 50 cm (20 in) in length, with a maximum recorded length of 91 cm (36 in). Atlantic Spadefish are found along the western coast of the Atlantic Ocean, from Massachusetts, USA, along the northern Gulf of Mexico, to Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. They prefer shallow coastal waters and feed on benthic invertebrates such as crustaceans, mollusks, and worms, as well as plankton and jellyfish. Popular methods for catching Atlantic Spadefish include using small hooks baited with shrimp or jellyfish, or spearfishing.
