Atlantic Mackerel
Atlantic Mackerel are silvery in colour with blue-green backs and dark, wavy bar markings along the upper body. They are found on both the northwestern and northeastern sides of the Atlantic Ocean in cold and temperate waters near the continental shelf. These fish reach up to about 40 cm (16 in) in length and are a popular species for both commercial and recreational fisheries. They typically feed on marine invertebrates such as shrimp, as well as squid and other fish. Female Atlantic Mackerel can lay between 285,000 and nearly 2 million eggs each spawning season.
