Arctic Char

Arctic Char are found in northern Canada, Alaska, Europe, and Russia, in watercourses bordering the Arctic Ocean. They are anadromous, meaning they return from the ocean to freshwater rivers to spawn. Arctic Char are closely related to lake trout and Atlantic salmon. Their coloration can range from very dark grey to bright yellow and orange. They often have white leading edges on the fins along the lower portion of their body. Arctic Char can grow quite large, sometimes reaching up to 70 cm (27.6 in) in length, and can live for over 30 years. Their diet consists of insects, eggs, crustaceans, snails, and other small local invertebrates, depending on whether they are in freshwater or marine environments.
