Acadian Redfish
Sebastes fasciatus

Acadian Redfish
Acadian Redfish are found in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, ranging from Labrador to the northeastern United States, and are most commonly associated with the Gulf of Maine and the Scotian Shelf. They inhabit deep, cold marine waters along the continental shelf and slope, typically over rocky or muddy bottoms. Their diet consists mainly of zooplankton, small crustaceans, shrimp, and small fish. Acadian Redfish usually grow to about 30–40 cm (12–16 in), with some individuals reaching lengths over 50 cm (20 in). They are primarily caught using bottom trawls and occasionally by deepwater hook-and-line fishing. Key identifiers include their bright red to orange coloration, large eyes adapted for low-light environments, and spiny dorsal fins.
