All Walleye must be over 50 cm in length and all Northern Pike must be over 63 cm in length to be entered.

Fishing starts on Fridays at 6 am to Sunday’s at 6 pm - weekends only

By registering and participating in the tournament, all participants agree to abide by the rules and regulations as set out in the 2023 Lesser Slave Lake Slam Ice Fishing Tournament event rules
The 2023 Lesser Slave Lake Slam Ice Fishing Tournament is an online tournament run through Angler’s Atlas website and their mobile app MyCatch.
Anyone can participate in the 2023 Lesser Slave Lake Slam Ice Fishing Tournament and it is for all ages. Registration is currently only able to support individual registration. For those participants sharing a mobile device, participants must login to their own account to submit their catches.
There is a $25.00 registration fee to enter the tournament.
Catches must be submitted through the MyCatch app for judging anytime during that period.
In order for catches to be sent properly, you must use the same login email and password for both the Angler’s Atlas website and the MyCatch app.

You will receive an automatic email confirming that you have entered the tournament and that your payment has gone through.
Once accepted into the tournament, download the free MyCatch mobile app which is available for both iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play Store) and login to activate the tournament on the app again using the same login email and password that you used to register in the tournament. By participating in this event your name may be publicly visible.
Protecting anglers’ privacy is a priority, and any location data collected during the tournament will not be released to the public. Our promise to anglers is “Secret Fishing Spots Stay Secret”. See below for further details.

This event is catch and release only. Eligible species include Walleye, Northern Pike, Burbot & Yellow Perch only. All Walleye must be over 50 cm in length and all Northern Pike must be over 63 cm in length to be entered. In order for each catch to qualify, a photograph of the fish on a measuring device (instructions below) must be taken using the MyCatch app (ie. photos cannot be uploaded from a photo gallery or other source).
All contestants must have GPS/location services enabled on your cell phone for their catches to qualify. Your location data will be protected. For more information, see details below.
This is a total length measurement tournament. NOT fork length. See pic for reference. The total length of a fish is measured from the tip of the nose or jaw to the tip of the tail with the tail pinched.
The nose of the fish must be at the start or zero mark on all measuring devices and the total length is taken where the longest length of the tail crosses the measurements on the measuring device.
The photo entry must be taken from a birds-eye view looking down on the fish.
All fish must be measured with the right side down (the right side of the fish must be facing down or touching the board) and the left side of the fish facing upwards.
If you measure your fish entry on a commercially produced bumpboard, the measurement rules are as follows. The nose of the fish must be visibly touching the bump end of the board, the fish must be placed on top of the board and the entire fish showing the head and tail and past the tail must be visible in the measurement photo.
If you measure your fish entry on a homemade bumpboard, the measurement rules are the same as above BUT you must provide a photo to the organizer of the empty board to verify proof of measurement accuracy. Homemade bumpboards must have a solid edge or "bump" for the fish to be set against and it must line up with the 0 mark on the tape. Unverified boards will NOT be accepted.
If you measure your fish using a tape measure, the measurement rules are as follows. The fish nose and the start of the tape must be aligned by placing both against a solid edge. The fish's nose must be aligned with the zero mark on the tape, the fish cannot be on top of the tape measure or cover it in any way, and the entire fish showing the head and tail and past the tail must be visible in the measurement photo. Do not use fabric or flexible measuring tapes. Where the measuring tape and nose of the fish are not aligned against a solid edge, an adjustment may be completed by the organizers. Their call will be final.
If an entry submission comes in where a measuring rule is not followed, such as the nose is not touching the bump or at the zero mark, the fish may still be approved but a 10% length penalty will be applied. The penalty will apply to the observable length of the fish at the discretion of the Organizer. The entry may also be rejected.
All catches will be approved to the last physical line on a measuring device. If it extends past a mark but there are no physical lines to confirm the true length, the last mark it crosses will be used.
The mouth is allowed to be open, closed, or anywhere in between, so long as the fish meets the other above requirements
There are to be no fingers placed in the gills or mouth of the fish. Any fingers in the gills or mouth of the fish will disqualify that fish. This rule applies to the Measurement photo only (not the hero or release video)
A second photo entry, often called the Hero Shot - consisting of the angler holding the catch in the same photo; may be used but is optional for this event
A third entry procedure that you will be prompted for is a live video release of the fish and is MANDATORY for this event.
The app will work without WiFi or any or strong cell service. If you submit a fish without any or strong enough service, the app will tell you that the fish has been recorded, and that it will sync up to the server once you return to service. Every fish you log (whether in good service or not) will appear in your app’s Log View (2nd icon from the left at the bottom). If you have fish “awaiting sync,” it will indicate this here. The submissions will eventually come through on their own once you return to service, but you can help speed up the process by “manually syncing” those pending logs (see how here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU-AwLc8OLY) once you’re in service. The logs are time/date/location stamped to the moment that they were taken, so even if the submission is delayed, the time on that submission will still be accurate.
Catches that are submitted will be reviewed for approval often throughout each day of the event. Once the submissions are reviewed and approved, they appear immediately on the appropriate leaderboard(s). DO NOT EXPECT to see entries show up immediately after you log them.

Tournament boundaries are within the limits of the water body of Lesser Slave Lake

All catches made within the start and end times must be synchronized with the Angler’s Atlas server within the event times to qualify.
At the discretion of the tournament director, tournament days may be shortened, postponed or canceled due to unsafe weather or water conditions.
Proceeds from the tournament will be distributed as prizes in accordance with the prizing categories below. Prize payouts will be adjusted if the event does not fill to the expected number of participants of 100 - see 4B
The guaranteed cash prize breakdown is as follows:
1st Place Longest Overall Walleye - $350
2nd Place Longest Overall Walleye - $200
3rd Place Longest Overall Walleye - $100
1st Place Longest Overall Northern Pike - $350
2nd Place Longest Overall Northern Pike - $200

Prize amounts are based on a full field of 100 anglers. If the tournament doesn’t fill, the payout percentages for each paid position will remain the same and will be adjusted accordingly. Cash prizes may be awarded through either E-transfer, cheque or entry fee refund.
A participant can only win one prize placing per species.
Awards will be announced on or by Thursday, March 2, 2023 after a full review of entries has been completed and anglers will be contacted directly using the contact information provided in the tournament registration process.
In the case of a tie, the tie break will go to the person with the highest number of fish reported.
Tournament organizers reserve the right to adjust entries.
Anglers have up to 60 days to claim their prize. Anglers that do not claim their prize within this period forfeit their prize

This tournament is catch and release ONLY. Harvesting fish will result in disqualification. The goal is to achieve a 0% mortality rate.
The usage of barbless hooks is recommended.
All angling must take place in no deeper than 6 Meters or 20 feet at any time during the event. This is to prevent Barotraumer and protect the resource
Anglers can only submit catches that they have caught themselves. This is an individual tournament, so you cannot enter as a partnership or team, and under no circumstances can you share fish with any other angler. Anglers are free to fish alone or with other tournament or non-tournament anglers, but each registered angler may only enter their own fish on their own app.
All fish entered for this event must be caught via angling i.e. using hook, line, rod and reel. At no time will fish caught by non angling (i.e. use of traps, trap nets or cages) be allowed to be entered. Tip ups are permitted.
Each contestant must have in their possession a valid fishing license for their respective jurisdiction or be exempt under regulations of their jurisdiction.
Each contestant must conform to the fishing rules and regulations that are in place for the jurisdiction in which they are fishing. You must follow all regulations pertaining to possession limits of all fish not entered in the event and kept for personal use.
Promoters and organizers assisting in the tournament operation are not responsible for death, injury, damage, liability, theft, fire or any loss to any contestants.
Any angler found to be cheating will be disqualified from the tournament. Angler’s Atlas also reserves the right to ban anglers from competing in future events.
In the event of disqualification, any paid entry fees will be forfeited and not refunded.
All rules have loopholes. It is our intention to provide an honest sportsmanlike tournament. In the interest of good sportsmanship, contestants are reminded the spirit of the rule will prevail in all judgments.
All questions or concerns relating to the rules of this tournament are to be referred to the Organizer or their designated Authorized Tournament Protest and Appeals Committee. Their decision will be final in all cases. No other person can be considered a spokesman for the rules during the tournament. Any contestant has the right to make a protest against another contestant by contacting an Organizer through email and must be completed and presented within 1 hour of the close of the tournament. Their decision will be final in all cases. A $100.00 dollar protest fee may need to accompany the protest. The fee will be returned if the protest is found to be valid.
To ensure the best chances of survival for the fish, all participants are to handle fish safely. Blatant abuse to fish or the resource is reason for disqualification
This is an ice fishing only derby. Practice ice safety at all times! Fishing is only allowed on a minimum of at least 4 inches of ice. Only walk and fish where it is safe to do so. For ice safety information please see: https://mywildalberta.ca/fishing/safety-procedures/ice-safety-tips/default.aspx
Handle the fish quickly and as little as possible. Measure fish inside tents or ice shacks whenever possible, especially when temperatures dip below -10 degrees celsius
Wet your boards/rulers prior to measuring fish in cold conditions to help prevent freezing the fish to the board, especially if you are using an Angler's Atlas, Judge or other aluminum/metal boards
For ice fishing events - ice on the eyes or in the gills etc are a reason for disqualification. Frozen fish will be rejected. Do not hold or support the fish by its gills, gill covers or eyes. A fish’s eyes and gills can freeze when exposed to sub-zero temperatures. Whenever possible, keep fish in the water while handling and unhooking them, and have your release tools within reach.
All photo & video submissions may be used by MyCatch by Angler's Atlas for future use.
“Secret Fishing Spots Stay Secret” — This is our primary commitment to anglers who report their catches through MyCatch. So what does this mean in practice?
Angler’s Atlas does not release MyCatch GPS data to the public. It is treated as confidential and is provided to fisheries researchers under strict conditions.
Every research team we work with must sign a data sharing agreement that sets the terms of use for the data.
Data is anonymized before it is provided to the researcher.
Researchers agree not to share the data with anyone else.
Researchers cannot use the data for any purpose other than the research specified in the agreement.
Exact location data cannot be published as part of the scientific research. Instead, it has to be generalized to a larger region so the location cannot be reverse engineered.
Angler’s Atlas may release data to a law enforcement agency if compelled to do so under court order.
These data privacy rules are designed to protect our angler’s private data, to conserve the fisheries, and to make sure we maintain a trusting relationship with our anglers into the future. 7 Schedule A:
Schedule A: Competitive Fishing Event Conditions
Organizer conditions
1. Advertising is not permitted until a licence number has been issued. All event advertisements shall include the Competitive Fishing Event (CFE) licence number in the advertisement.
2. A copy of the event licence, a signed copy of Schedule ‘A” and the organizer’s Event Rules must be provided to all registered participants. Organizers are responsible for enforcing all the event rules (event rule document and schedule A).
3. This CFE only permits the use of photography; fish must be returned to the water immediately following photograph. Fish may not be killed, retained (e.g. in live wells), transported or weighed.
4. Organizers shall ensure that participants only photograph fish species listed on the CFE licence.
5. The organizer must maintain a list of all participants including their signatures that are registered for the event and noting that each participant was issued a registration package, whereby the participants understand and agree to follow all CFE rules and licence conditions.
6. The organizer shall clearly post a copy of the CFE licence conditions along with directions on how and where to contact the organizers.
7. The organizer shall ensure that all participants understand that photographed fish shall be handled in a manner that causes them least harm and released back into the waters from which they were taken.
8. Organizers are responsible for enforcing all event rules. A copy of the CFE licence and conditions as well as the organizer’s event rules shall be provided to all registered participants.
9. The organizer shall complete and return a Competitive Fishing Event Reporting Form and associated worksheets within 14 business days from the conclusion of the event.
A. The reporting form for this CFE is due no later than: March 31, 2023
B. The report shall also include a list of all rule infractions relating this event.
10. Fish mortality, the organizer shall:
A. Establish and maintain records of all dead (or dying) fish during pre-fishing and during the tournament and;
11. Collect, preserve and submit dead fish (in coolers or frozen) to Fisheries Management staff in Slave Lake: (Alberta Environment & Parks – Suite 100, 101-3rd Street, Provincial Building), by no later than March 1, 2023
Organizer and Participant conditions
12. Fizzing of fish is prohibited.
A. Fizzing refers to the practice of releasing, or attempting to release air from the air bladder of a fish caught from deep water.
13. Before participating in a Competitive Fishing Event, all participants must ensure they have been registered by having their name included on a list of participants that is maintained for the event, and that they have received a copy of the event licence, a signed copy of Schedule "A" and the organizers event rules.
14. During the CFE, all participants shall wear a visible form of identification that indicates them as participants of the CFE.
15. All participants in the licensed CFE must possess a valid Alberta Sportfishing Licence and follow all angling regulations unless otherwise specified in this Schedule A.
16. Participants in this CFE must practice catch-and-release for all fish species caught during the event.
17. Fish shall not be marked, cut or physically altered in any way.
18. Participants fishing under the authority of a Competitive Fishing Event Licence must follow the Alberta Fishery Regulations for the water body unless specified in the sections below
A. Lesser Slave Lake – Walleye entered into the CFE must be at or over a length of 50cm pinched total length
B. Lesser Slave Lake – Northern Pike may be entered into the CFE and must be at or over a length of 63cm pinched total length
C. All other sportfishing regulations mush be adhered to
19. All participants must use barbless hooks only. For the purposes of interpreting this condition:
A. A hook means a single, double or triple pointed hook on a common shaft, and includes hooks attached to a line or lure, and;
B. Barbless hooks includes hooks with barbs removed or hooks with pinched barbs lying flat against the shaft of the hook such that they are not functional.
20. The maximum depth permitted to fish is 6 meters or 20 feet.
