Family Fishing Event On Cultus Lake

Post date: Tuesday the 10th of June 2008 at 8:49am

Get ready to head out to Cultus Lake on June 14 for the Greg Clark Memorial Family Fishing Derby, hosted by the Fraser Valley Salmon Society. This huge event is being held in conjunction with Family Fishing Weekend events throughout the province. The derby targets pikeminnow, which feed on small salmonids, in the hopes of reducing the pikeminnow population in Cultus Lake. Event organizer, Frank Kwak, says tickets will be available at the Main Beach from 6:00 am to 10:00 am., or at Fred’s Custom Tackle and Chilliwack Dart and Tackle in advance. Prizes are awarded after the event closes at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for kids. All ticket holders are eligible for raffle draw prizes. Several hundred prizes are available, including a grand prize Junior trophy which will feature the winner’s name. The winner of that prize will also get a take home trophy. Among the many organizations helping out, some members of the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association will donote their time and boats, helping kids to get out on the water and catch some fish. Pier guides will also be around to help pier anglers who need help getting started. Even rods will be available for use, so don’t let a lack of equipment stop you from heading out! The on-shore activities are numerous, and a concession is available.
